The minor in Public Policy and Leadership is open to students in any major and is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to:
- Understand the political constraints that are faced by policy makers
- Critically evaluate the effectiveness of policies,
- Measure the performance of alternative approaches to policy implementation within the framework of the diversity of human values and needs that infuse policy debates.
The leadership component is focused on providing students with the analytical and practical skills required to become effective directional agents for organizational and societal change. Particular emphasis is focused on increasing the involvement of women in the public sector as analysts, advocates, and decision-makers. Practical skills are infused with a moral purpose that enlists students in a process of mindful self-discovery surrounding issues with which they wish to become engaged.
The minor in Public Policy and Leadership provides grounding for postgraduate professional study in business, education, law, and public policy and for graduate study in the social sciences, as well as for employment in the corporate, government, and non-profit sectors.
